Performance Sailboat CruisingPerformance Cruising Course DescriptionFor sailors who have experience in smaller boats, understand the basics of sail trim and boathandling, and are looking to take the step up to managing larger vessels, J World Sailing School offers our Performance Cruising course over two weekends. This offering builds the skills necessary for handling a larger boat safely and efficiently while venturing out on longer day-trips. This course is the same as our Performance Cruising 5-Day Course. Qualified sailors may also take the second weekend as a self standing course (the Cruise Boat Handling Course) specific to sailing larger boats. In this hands-on sailing course, we use a powerful combination of boats. First, we use the smaller J/80 to brush up on our boathandling and sail trim skills. A responsive boat gives us prompt feedback, rapidly indicating which adjustments were beneficial and which were detrimental. We are very much able to feel when the boat is sailing well and when we need to be more attentive. We then proceed to a larger vessel, such as a J/105 or similar, to introduce auxiliary inboard power, wheel steering, and the onboard mechanical tools necessary for dealing with the increased loads. This sailboat cruising and daysailing course concentrates on many aspects of sailing and introduces skills that bareboat charter companies are looking for before accepting you as a potential sailboat charter client. Successful completion of this course qualifies you to charter larger boats with the J World Sailing Club, including our J/105s. Topics in this sailing course include:
